News for December 2006
Ok while I admit this page is hopelessly outdated. Please visit funky judge for all the new info or the message board which often knows what the band is doing before they do (just kidding). I am in the process of updating this website. This site initially way back when was only going to be about Seth but now it's like a clearing house for info on the band presently. Finally, it's just my opinion folks. Don't have a friggin' cow here. If I make a mistake, correct me and let's move on.
The
J. Geils Band Hotline message board , on the urging of one Dave, a serious Geils fan, who was lamenting the lack of boards on the band. I recommend everyone interested in the band join this and the yahoo groups board for the latest info, photos, video, music, rarities and chitterchatter. My handle is "raputahdabeautah". Nonetheless the rule's are strict: no foul language, no flames (take it outside), and no gossip or posting anything that might be considered embarrassing to members of the band. In other words: If you would not want it to be said about you for the world to see, don't say it about them. Or you will be banned and the offending article deleted. I am quite serious. It's a board for fans to connect, share, reminisce, and enjoy. We are over 100 members and what an amazing group of people. They are all just such dedicated and fun interesting people. So check it out today.
Magic Dick is touring on the east coast with Mark Hummel Band. He played a show in Cambridge in September 2006 and Danny, Seth, and Stephen showed up and played on stage a song together.
Jay hisself is preparing another CD with New Guitar Summit but I don't have more details at this time except that there is a special recording guest on it the wisecracker line tells me. The last one was released this summer. He is playing with a band on New Year's Eve Dec 312 2006 at The Bull Run in Shirley (dinner and music for one price).
Danny Klein turned 50 (for the second time!) in May 2006 and Valerie did herself proud by inviting every person Danny ever met in his life to the surprise party. Everyone had a delightful time seeing old friends and meeting new ones. The band reunited in their original lineup for the first time in over 20 years and in a short but powerful set of oldies that one raised the roof of the Scullers Jazz Bar. My head nearly exploded with the excitement but I more or less behaved myself in mixed company. Needless to say, I was the last to leave!
The band, sans Stephen, did a benefit concert in February 2005 at the Charles Hotel with Cam Neely and Denis Leary and Michael J. Fox in da house. Quite an evening to see the band rock out to a sea of black-tie garbed folk.
DK is gigging with his band Stone Crazy. They have a CD out that's fabulous that Jay and Seth contributed to so BUY it. He's also got a restaurant that just opened this fall in Harvard Square so get gussied up and get over there for some culinary delights.
Seth worked on a soundtrack for the 2006 PBS documentary Country Boys. His name is also in the "Special Thanks to" credits for a local independent film called Mai's America about a Vietnamese exchange student who longs to experience the American Dream and ends up in a southern redneck hell to her initial bemusement but eventual disappointment.
The VH1 cable television show Behind the Song episode concerning the various myths about the Geils song Centerfold was dropped as a segment in 2003. My brush with fame was quelled this time, but as a professed shameless self-promoter I expect to be "found" someday.
The album Even/Odd is available as a CD only as a Japanese import. This is not a bootleg. Allegedly there is a CD import from Portugal too.
Seth's CD is still in process but getting closer to market. We'll believe it when we see it, however I have heard several tracks and was very impressed (big surprise).
Seth is in the Credits of "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" for doing the arrangement of the breakdown section of the song "What Becomes of The Brokenhearted."
Anyone with info to add please email me.
